| Site has been bit quiet for quite some time now, so I decided to make a post :)
Past summer I've been busy with my wedding business, but I also managed to make few trips. I'll upload some pics later to the gallery. In April we went to Crete for a week and it surely is totally different world in spring than summer. In July we made weekend trip to Berlin, I loved the city and it's laid back athmosphere. Future travelling is currently open but I bet I'll figure out something ;)
Oh and Nikon has released some interesting products like D5000 and D300s but especially lenses like updated version of 70-200. I won't change mine for that, but ofcoz would buy it if I was in need. Also 18-200 was updated and it would be interesting to see comparision of those lenses between old and new version.

| Few months have past since last blog message. Biggest changes since then are new camera gear - Nikon D3! Yes I went back to full frame with this magnificient tool. I also sold my D200 but kept D300 so I can basically take best parts from DX and FX world :)
Last week I also bought Nikon TC17E-II teleconverter. So far first test show pretty good results. I've used this one before, in 2005 with 300/2.8 and was very impressed. Now with 70-200/2.8 it gives similar results. Since I've also owned Sigma 1.4x and 2.0x converters, I can say that this one performs better than either of those.

| Today Nikon has launched D3x camera body. Looks pretty impressive with 24 Mpix resolution :)
Too bad ISO is limited to 1600, but depends how good the 1600 is regarding to noise. Might be good enough for available light shooting. Let's see and wait after first reviews are available.

| Winter is here and time for studio shooting :)
I've been following Orbis ring flash for quite some time now and I was very happy to hear some time ago that pre-sales have started. I placed an order immediately and now I'm waiting it to be arrived.
I also got Lastolite Micro Apollo few weeks ago. I thought it would be better but I was quite disappointed with the quality of the product.
What else, oh yes I bought second speedlite, this time 3rd party one, Nissin 622di.

| I've updated gallery with photos from recent trip to Azores. Those beautiful islands are located about 1500 km west from Lissbon and are also part of Portugal.
Lightroom 2 is now released and I placed also my order. I've been using the beta quite a lot and I like it really much as I do like original Lightroom 1.x as well.

| This year my task has been to replace most of my 3rd party lenses to Nikkor ones. Last week I got AF20/2.8D and next week I should get AF35/2.8. So far 20mm lens looks pretty good :)

| Yesterday I bought Sandisk Extreme III memory card reader. I have few CF readers already but decided to give this one a go since the sales package was convincing enough. To my suprise there really was a difference and not a small one. I made a small test by copying same files (1 GB) to same card with Lacie reader and with this new Sandisk reader. Results were:
Lacie: 6 minutes 53 seconds
Sandisk: 4 minutes 9 seconds
So difference was around three minutes making 40% improvement. Not bad at all :)

| I decided finally update my current LG display to a new one. After some thinking I ended to order HP LP2465. Its a 24" LCD display with full HD resolution and 178 degrees viewing angles. It should arrive in a week so lets see then how it looks like.

| Few days ago Adobe released new update for Lightroom. It is version 1.3 and includes support for e.g. Nikon D3 and Nikon D300 cameras. I haven't updated my Lightroom yet (just downloading) so I don't know whether there are other improvements. For Mac users they seemed to add Leopard compatibility.

| No updates here recently, well actually a few on the finnish version. Anyway my new finnish site is now open. Its called KIVAKUVA.COM that means something like "Nice Picture". Check it out although it might be a bit hard since it is only in Finnish. My portrait stuff will move there or actually has already moved and I'll remove those pics from here. This site will currently focus only on Travel and Nature images.

| For a quite some while I haven't used my loyal 50mm lens and therefore I'm planning to use it more in the near future. I also decided to try out my 90mm Tamron macro for portrait work. I know focusing is slow but still I'll test it out. There is Nikon 85/1.8 that is pretty ideal for portraits but as I've this 90mm lens already I'll give it a shot :)

| I visited few local stores recently and got myself a new monopod. I was first looking the best of the best... Gitzo but it is so expensive. Well in one store I was checking out Slik 381 Carbon fibre one and it seemed to fullfill my requirement of leaning towards the monopod without collapsing so I got it for myself :)

| Year is almost over and it was pretty good year for photography. In february I was in Venezuela, in August I was in Canada so now I've conquered both North and South America :)
What are plans for next year ? Current plan is to go to Norway during the Summer. Before that I'll be in Finnish Lapland in late January.
What comes to photo gear, I think I've pretty good arsenal already, no major purchases in the horizon.... but I've said that before :D

| Recently I was struggling with a camera bag problem. It seemed that every time I went out to shoot I had to transfer equipment between my backpacks. As I felt that is annoying I decided to go for third bag that I call storage bag. I ended to buy Lowepro Commercial AW bag and I think I will make finally add some more articles about my bags :)
Oh and if you feel you are also bagaholic check Nikonians.org bags and straps forum, you'll get support from there :D

| I finally made my mind and bought Archos GMini 400 as a image bank for field trips. So far it is real nice although I haven't yet tested it fully but seems to do the tricks it should. Works also as video player and music player :)
I got myself also two new Sandisk Ultra II 1GB cards so memory capacity shouldn't be so big problem anymore.

| I added two recent images to the gallery. Those are taken using Fuji Velvia 100 slide film.
For some reason I haven't been using pro lab for developing prints. From now on I will only use pro lab. I got back some prints and the results were almost too good to be true :)
What a waste of money has been my recent years with cheap labs :(

| Spring is coming faster than ever :)
To celebrate spring I added some light and color to the pages.
D70 savings project continues, 75% completed at the moment. Recently I even took some pictures it is first time since several weeks. Couple of shots still to be taken until the roll is finished.

My creative block continues, no photos taken lately :(
However I've recently studied a bit of mounting and framing instead as well as own paper making, which was fun actually. D70 Saving process is still ongoing and now progressing a bit faster :)

| Finnish distributor said that D70 price will be confirmed during this month (february). Technikdirekt in Germany already listed it as 1089 euros but withdraw the prices (now says coming soon) shortly after.

Shop has currently two limited prints for sale and both are printed by high quality photolab on a true photopaper. Other image is glossy photo and other one is matte photo. Price is still ridiculous cheap 20 euros per print including EU wide shipping. Take a look at the shop.

| Digital cameras are here to stay and I'll be moving to partly digital during this year. I haven't made my mind yet but likely it will be Nikon DSLR (D70?). Anyway, Fuji has been very interesting option during recent years by offering SLR like pro-sumer class compact digitals. Good example is new S7000. Check DPreview for latest review. It is temptating but I hope I can wait till D70 is to be released. Let's wait couple of weeks and see what are the specs of D70.
