.:: Nikon AF-S 55-200 4-5.6 DX-VR-ED ::.
First impressionToday (5.4.2007) I bought a new lens that brand new Nikon 55-200 VR. One may ask why did I bought and answer is that this lens is perfect all around lens. It has also very good focal range for portraits. Sure I've have better lenses than this one already like Sigma 70-200/2.8 and I also have 70-300 ED lens. How does this one compare then ? Well it definitely compare! After few shots today I'm quite impressed infact. Pictures are actually quite sharp. Focusing is quite fast, maybe not HSM speed but fast still. There is also VR that helps with long end. Some people guessed that this would be too light for e.g. D200 but I didn't feel that way. Feels quite comfortable infact and seems more rugged than some people speculated. It has plastic mount but that is not big issue to me. I've used my 28-80D lens quite much during past six years and it shows just some marks of usage, similar way like brass mounts loose the chrome. Nothing to worry about at least so far.
Picture 1. AF-S 55-200 DX-VR-ED mounted to D200
Picture 2. On the left side you have AF/MF switch and also VR switch. However you don't have VR mode switch.
Sample pictures
I find that pictures are actually really sharp for the price (299 euros) and this was definitely a good investment. Hopefully it will last as one as well.
